As the Director of Marketing at Sphero, Chuck collaborated with Disney to launch the app-enabled Sphero BB-8 droid, modeled after the character from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." It quickly became a sensation, sold out on Amazon in 13 minutes, and sold out at other retailers, including Apple, Target, and Best Buy, within hours of its release. After being restocked, it went on to sell millions more units becoming the toy of the year.

The marketing strategy was innovative and multi-faceted, leveraging a combination of high-profile retail placement, influencer partnerships, and media coverage.

1. Retail Placement: To position BB-8 as a premium product, Chuck and his team secured shelf space and created unique point-of-purchase displays in top-tier retailers including Apple Stores. These strategic placements not only provided significant visibility, but also targeted tech-savvy consumers, appealing to both Star Wars fans and gadget enthusiasts.

2. Influencer Partnerships: Chuck and his team created a unique social campaign where top Snapchat influencers were invited to flagship Disney stores in major cities across the globe to document the midnight launch event. They created real-time, engaging content that reached a wide audience. This campaign marked one of the first global product launches using Snapchat, resulting in over 10.3 million views, 4.76k screenshots, and 69.1 million seconds watched.

3. PR and Media Coverage: The launch was also supported by extensive media coverage in top-tier outlets. Worldwide press coverage included headlines like “How A Cute Star Wars Robot Is Leading A Toy Industry Revolution” and “Star Wars' BB-8 by Sphero Is The Droid You're Looking For.”
